Voice assistants turn spoken words into digital information that a computer can analyse. When you say a command, the microphone first records tiny changes in air pressure. The system then removes background noise and divides the sound into very short pieces. Since 2011, these tools have become common in phones, speakers and cars. A speech recognition model compares the pieces with millions of examples of real human speech. It looks for patterns in sounds, stress and pauses, not only for separate words. Modern assistants can also use context, so they understand that 'weather' after 'tomorrow' probably means a forecast. In a quiet room, some systems can recognise more than 95% of simple requests correctly. However, accents, fast speech and loud music can still cause mistakes. That is why engineers train assistants with 3 main methods: more data, better algorithms and careful testing.

Technology helps me find reliable information and practise difficult topics at my own pace. For example, I watch short explanations, take online quizzes and share documents with classmates.
Do you think teenagers spend too much time on their phones? Why or why not?
I think many teenagers do spend too much time on their phones, especially when they scroll without a clear purpose. However, the problem is not the phone itself, but the lack of balance and self-control.
What gadget would you find difficult to live without?
I would find it difficult to live without my laptop. It is more comfortable than a phone for writing essays, making presentations and attending online lessons.
How do you protect your personal information online?
I use strong passwords and do not post private details such as my address or travel plans. I also check app permissions because some free apps collect more data than they need.

Imagine that you and your friend are doing a school project called 'Technology in our daily life'. You have found two photos to illustrate it, but for technical reasons you can use only one of them. Photo 1 shows a teenager paying for a bus ticket with a smartphone. Photo 2 shows an elderly man having a video call with his doctor at home. Leave a voice message to your friend, explain which photo you would choose for the project and give your opinion on the project theme. (12-15 sentences)
