Hi, Alex, I’ve chosen two photo-illustrations for our project “Real travel vs virtual tours”, and I’d like to explain my choice. In the first photo, a young traveller is standing in front of an old castle with a backpack and a map. In the second photo, a student is wearing a VR headset and looking at a famous museum hall on a screen. I think these pictures fit the project well because they present two clear ways of discovering places. The main difference is that the first picture shows a person being physically present in a new environment, whereas the second one shows a digital experience from home. Also, real travel involves movement, weather and live communication, while a virtual tour depends on technology and internet access. This contrast makes the photos useful for comparing emotions, costs and convenience. Real travel has a strong advantage: it lets people use all their senses and meet local people face to face. It can also make memories stronger, because unexpected events often become part of the holiday. However, real trips may be expensive, tiring and harmful to the environment if they include long flights. Virtual tours, on the other hand, are cheaper and more accessible for people who cannot travel far. Nevertheless, they may feel less exciting, and users miss smells, sounds and real social contact. In my opinion, virtual tours are a helpful addition to real travel, especially before a trip or for educational purposes. Still, they cannot fully replace visiting a place in person. To conclude, I believe these two photos will make our project balanced and easy to discuss.
